The cleanest same-shop comparison comes from a Los Angeles installer offering both products. For a medium vehicle, it advertises $750–$900 for Adam’s Advanced ceramic, $1,900–$2,400 for System X Max G+ and Rocklear from $1,900. Paint correction, when needed, is separately listed at $600–$1,500. These are that shop’s 2026 prices, not general Los Angeles rates (Logan’s Auto Detailing).
Rocklear prices also differ considerably among installers:
- A California installer advertises packages from $1,195 to $2,095 (Dragon Auto).
- A Texas installer lists $2,399–$2,899, plus at least $200 for additional used-vehicle preparation when required. Ceramic coating and PPF removal cost $100 per hour (Ai AutoWorks).
- A Pennsylvania installer publishes planning estimates of $3,250 for a sedan, $3,495 for a small SUV or crossover and $4,125 for a full-size SUV or pickup (Mike Details).
A vehicle-specific inspection and quote are therefore more useful than a single claimed typical Rocklear price. Vehicle size, paint condition, coated surfaces and warranty obligations can move the final bill substantially.
Rocklear And Ceramic Coatings Are Not Direct Substitutes
Icon says Rocklear is neither a ceramic coating nor liquid PPF. The manufacturer advertises a coating thickness of up to 2.5 mils and a guarantee of up to 15 years, while also acknowledging that Rocklear is not as resistant to rock chips as PPF (Icon Rocklear). It is sold as an installer-applied system rather than a retail DIY coating.
Ceramic coating covers a much wider range of products and prices. Gyeon, for example, says one 30 ml bottle of its consumer Q² One EVO should cover a standard sedan and advertises up to 24 months with proper maintenance. Its instructions still call for a decontamination wash, paint correction as needed and final panel preparation before coating (Gyeon USA).

For either system, paint preparation can materially change the installed price. Ask whether the quote includes washing, chemical and mechanical decontamination, a prep polish, deeper correction and removal of old protection. Treat The 15-Year Guarantee Narrowly
Do not divide the installation price by 15 and assume every type of paint damage is covered for that period.
Warranty terms published by a Texas installer cover coating failures such as delamination, peeling, yellowing and premature fading. They exclude scratches, stone chips, collisions, repaired panels, harmful chemicals and damage from car washing. An approved claim is remedied by recoating affected panels, not by paying for unrelated paint damage (Ai AutoWorks warranty terms).
There is also a condition to settle before paying. Icon’s main site says there are no costly annual inspections. That is not the same as no inspection at all: the Texas terms require registration within 30 days and an inspection within 18 months. A Canadian Rocklear warranty page also requires one inspection within 18 months and says there are no yearly recoats to buy (Icon Rocklear Ontario warranty).
Those requirements come from particular installer and jurisdiction documents. Ask for the warranty that applies to your installer, package and location, including the price of any required inspection.
Ceramic warranties vary as well. Ceramic Pro says its coating packages require annual inspections involving decontamination and a coating boost (Ceramic Pro). XPEL says its eight-year FUSION PLUS PREMIUM warranty requires an annual inspection and top-off application (XPEL). These examples do not establish the same condition for every ceramic product or installer.
Compare Cost Over Your Ownership Period
Use a period matching how long you expect to keep the car—five years, for example. The ownership-cost formula is installation plus correction, removal of old protection, required inspections or toppers, and likely panel service or reapplication.
Use zero only when the written quote or warranty confirms an item is included or not required. A blank estimate is unknown, not free. Do not assume a lifetime or 15-year label eliminates maintenance costs.
Rocklear deserves consideration when its installed price is close to a premium ceramic package, the preparation is equivalent, you intend to keep the car for years and you are comfortable having future work handled through certified installers.
The California installer cited above describes the system as not practically removable and says finish problems may require sanding and polishing. Confirm the correction, removal and damaged-panel process with the shop that will perform the work.
Ceramic is normally the cheaper route when an entry professional package meets your ownership period or when you can prepare and coat the vehicle correctly yourself. It also suits a goal centered on gloss, water behavior and easier washing rather than added coating thickness.
Neither option should be priced as a replacement for PPF when repeated stone impacts are the main concern. Icon itself says Rocklear is less resistant to rock chips than PPF, and the ceramic packages in this comparison are not presented as impact-protection film.
Require Matching Details In Both Quotes
Get each shop to put the following details in writing:
- Exact product, package and claimed service life.
- Painted panels and other surfaces included.
- Decontamination, prep polish and paint correction included.
- Charges for deeper correction or removing existing protection.
- Cure time and storage or water-exposure restrictions.
- Required inspections, boosters and their current prices.
- Warranty registration deadline, exclusions and remedy.
- Cost and method for servicing one damaged panel.
- Whether another qualified shop can perform warranty work.
- Final price with fees and tax.
Rocklear is not automatically more expensive because some advertised quotes place it beside premium ceramic coating. Against an entry ceramic package, however, it can cost several times as much. The useful comparison is the complete cost over your actual ownership period, using equivalent preparation and the warranty terms that apply to the specific installer.
